I have a hand-written garden journal that I often write down what I did, such as date of sowing seeds, transplanting seedlings, and what’s done in my garden. However, there are some days that I am so tired that I forget to write them down. I was looking for a better way to keep track of what I do, so I gave Epic Garden Planner a try. They offer a 7-day free trial, so there was nothing to lose if it wasn’t for me.
As it turned out, I am really enjoying using this planner. It offers everything I do manually. It’s also very intuitive. I could start using it right away without going through all the tutorials.
In the planner, you can design your garden visually. In order to do so, you need to map your garden first. I know all about my garden – what is planted where. However, it was difficult to translate how I picture my garden into a 2D drawing. So, I asked my husband to take an aerial photo with a drone. And here it is!! It was much easier to create a planner using this photo.

Because Epic Gardening sells Birdie’s beds, their planner already has pre-configured beds built into it. As most of my raised beds are from Birdie’s, it was very easy for me to set it up in the planner. The view below needs to be turned by 90 degrees to match the aerial view. I didn’t know the exact dimension of my garden space, but by placing a couple of raised beds and determining the spacing between them helped me set it up pretty quickly.

The planner is already useful as is, but it offers a lot of additional interesting features such as companion planting suggestions, crop rotation suggestions and warnings. Another feature I like is Journal. I can simply add what I did or saw in the garden. If I choose the “Plant” option, I can look up and select which seed I planted from a list. As Epic Gardening now owns Botanical Interests, there is a massive selection of seeds you can choose from. If you purchase and use their products like me, this planner is very convenient.
I have six more days to use during the free trial period, but so far, I am really liking it. With an annual recurring subscription of $34.97 a year, I will most likely go for it once it expires.
